Glencoe Marching Tide
2024 NWAPA Class AAA Silver Medalists
The Glencoe Marching Tide is the most visible ensemble at the school. The marching band performs at home football games and regional competitions within the NWAPA circuit. The performance includes a combination of music, expression, movement, dance, choreography, and custom design. The ensemble consists of four prominent sections: woodwinds, brass, percussion, and colorguard. At the forefront of the group are the drum majors who lead and conduct them on the field. The Marching Tide has placed well in competitions and has a track record of success. The band was the 2021 NWAPA Class A Champion, 2022 Class AA Bronze Medalists, 2023 Class AA Bronze Medalists, 2024 Class AAA Silver Medalists, and has been a State Finalist for the last 4 years.
Winterguard
Varsity Winterguard - 2025 NWAPA SA Silver Medalists, 2025 WGI Championships SA Participants; JV Winterguard - 2025 NWAPA IRA Champions
The Glencoe Winterguard boasts a longstanding history with success at the regional and national level. In the Fall, this ensemble is the premier visual element of the marching band. The winterguard program at Glencoe is comprised of two ensembles: JV and Varsity. During the winter months, the ensemble competes locally in the NWAPA circuit, consistently placing 1st and 2nd within Scholastic A while JV places in the top 3 of their division. The group travels to Dayton, OH every other year to compete at Winter Guard International. The Varsity Winterguard will return to this prestigious event in 2027.
Winter Percussion
2025 WGI Portland Regional PSA Champions; 2025 NWAPA PSA Champions
The Winter Percussion ensemble is a natural extension for our percussion players in marching band. It is commonplace for wind players to expand their musical knowledge and pick up mallets or sticks to join the percussion ensemble. This highly skilled group has a record of success within the NWAPA circuit, earning awards for their overall creativity, as well as visual and musical excellence.
Jazz Band
The Jazz Band is composed of a dedicated group of students who share a passion for this American-based music idiom. In addition to the most common traditional jazz styles, such as swing, the band performs selections in the styles of rock, latin, and funk. This traditional ensemble of saxophones, brass, and rhythm section exposes students to jazz pedagogical techniques such as improvisation, and a smaller chamber-style of playing. The Jazz Band performs at various venues throughout the year such as assemblies, fundraising and community events, and annual seasonal concerts.
Wind Ensemble
2025 OSAA 6A State Participants
The Wind Ensemble is the premier concert ensemble at Glencoe High School. The band is auditioned in the spring of the preceding year and is representative of the best instrumental talent in the school. The Wind Ensemble performs challenging repertoire at local festivals, concerts, and at other community events. This ensemble exposes students to advanced pedagogical concepts that prepare them for college-level musicianship. Recently, the Wind Ensemble received state-qualifying scores in 2022, 2024, and 2025.
Concert Band
The Concert Band is the intermediate and entry level band at Glencoe High School. This band follows the logical progression from middle school band into high school and serves to instill the fundamentals, musicianship, and technique needed to participate in other various ensembles. The band plays repertoire that highlights specific skills and caters to the ensemble while also being challenging and fun.
Pit Orchestra
The Pit Orchestra is an integral part to Glencoe Musical Theatre. The orchestra is an auditioned group which starts rehearsing in mid-November. During winter, the pit orchestra rehearses weekly to prepare for several performances in late February and early March with the high school musical. The Glencoe musical is well-known for its high-level of excellence and recognition in the Portland metro-area.
